When the Louisville football team held a players only meeting, senior Seth Dawkins said it was decided that a win against Boston College was mandatory.

The receiver knew the team needed a boost of confidence, especially after a difficult loss to Florida State and an imposing schedule ahead. The Cardinals face Wake Forest, Clemson and Virginia the next three weeks.

Louisville met its mandatory requirement. The Cardinals defeated Boston College 41-39, their first conference win since November 2017.

“It was a party in the locker room that we haven’t partied in a minute,” Dawkins said.

Louisville was able to celebrate a win thanks to a comeback in the final three-and-a-half minutes. Boston College took a 39-38 lead with 3:32 left, but the Cardinals answered with a go-ahead field goal with 1:02 left.

“We pride ourselves on the fourth quarter,” Dawkins said.

Dawkins played a large role offensively in the win.

After managing just four catches for 39 yards in Louisville's first four games, Dawkins had the best performance of his career against Boston College.

Dawkins hauled in six receptions for 170 yards, both career highs. He had a 59-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter along with a 77-yard reception in the second quarter that led to a touchdown run by Hassan Hall.

Dawkins knew he would have a breakout performance at some point because of Louisville's rushing attack.

"It's kind of a relief, I knew it was coming," Dawkins said. "I knew it was bound to happen."

Dawkins wasn't the only receiver to finish over 100 yards. Tutu Atwell had eight receptions for 110 yards while Dez Fitzpatrick finished with five receptions for 108 yards.
