Watch: Steve Ellis, Louisville CBs Talk Start of Fall Camp
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program is officially back in action.
The Cardinals kicked off the start of fall camp earlier this week, their first under new head coach Jeff Brohm, conducting their first practice session of the preseason on Tuesday.
"It's been good," cornerbacks coach Steve Ellis said. "The guys, they have a great attitude. I think they got a good foundation here. It started this spring, and just carried over into the summer. The first two days, we've got a bunch of excitement. They've been energetic, they've been open to listening, want to get better and want to learn. I'm very pleased with the first two days."
While the Louisville secondary does lose star corner Kei'Trel Clark, but has plenty of talent for year one of the Brohm era. Cornerbacks Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Quincy Riley are back, as are safeties M.J. Griffin and Josh Minkins, plus impact playmakers like CB Storm Duck and S Cam'Ron Kelly bolster the overall depth in this area of the field.
"I think everybody, we're getting along," Brownlee said. "We're just running the defense and just playing together as a team, as a defense as one. I think we're all still trying to figure it out piece by piece, but as of right now, man, I feel like we're in a good spot right now."
Following the Cardinals' second practice fall camp on Wednesday, Ellis, Brownlee and Riley took time to meet with the media. They discussed the first couple days of fall camp, the transition to the 4-2-5 scheme, the confidence of the secondary, how post-spring newcomers have fared, and more.
