Highlights, Photos and Notes: Louisville 13, NC State 10

The highlights, photo gallery and team & player notes from the Cardinals' win vs. the Wolfpack.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Traveling to NC State for their first true road game of the season, the Louisville football program was able to ride their defense to a big win, capturing a 13-10 victory to move to 5-0 for the first time since 2013.

Team Notes:

  • Louisville improves to 9-4 vs. NC State, including 4-2 in Raleigh.
  • The Cards are off to a 5-0 start overall for the first time since 2013.
  • Louisville is 3-0 in conference play for the first time as an ACC member, last achieving a 3-0 conference start in 2012 when it was a member of the Big East.
  • Jeff Brohm is the second Louisville coach to begin his UofL career 5-0, joining Tom King who won his first ten games coaching the Cardinals in 1925 and 1926.
  • Louisville holds NC State to 201 yards of total offense, its lowest total since a 198-yard performance against Notre Dame in 2016.
    • NC State's 112 yards passing is also its lowest total since passing for 41 yards in the 2016 Notre Dame game.
  • Louisville holds its opponent scoreless in the first quarter for the sixth straight game, the longest streak since doing so for seven straight games in 1973.
  • Louisville is shut out in the first half for the first time since a 43-24 loss to Mississippi on Sept. 6, 2021.
  • Louisville wins for just the third time in program history when being held to 20 yards rushing or less.
  • Louisville holds an opponent scoreless for at least one half for the fourth time in its last six games.

Player Notes:

  • K Brock Travelstead set a new Louisville record for longest field goal made, connecting from 53 yards to break the record of 52 yards shared by Wilbur Summers, Ron Bell, Klaus Wilmsmeyer, Nate Smith, and Chris Philpott.
    • Travelstead made two of three field goals and his only extra point attempt, connecting from 33 and 53 yards while missing his first attempt from 52 yards.
    • Travelstead made the record-setting 53-yarder with 5:25 left in the fourth quarter, providing the Cards a 13-10 lead which they never relinquished.
    • Travelstead helped preserve the victory by drawing a running-into-the punter penalty with 2:44 left in the game, giving the Cards a first down, forcing NC State to use its last two timeouts, and taking another minute off the clock.
  • CB Quincy Riley intercepted an NC State pass with 1:33 left in the game to clinch the victory for Louisville.
    • Riley's interception was the fourth of his Louisville career.
    • Riley also contributed five tackles and a pass breakup.
  • QB Jack Plummer finished 21-of-35 for 286 yards passing with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. He was sacked four times for 40 yards.
  • WR Chris Bell scored his first career touchdown, hauling in a 39-yard pass from Plummer for Louisville's only trip to the end zone.
    • Bell finished with three receptions for a career-high 85 yards.
  • RB Jawhar Jordan was held to 32 yards rushing on 16 carries, the lowest yardage total in his last 11 games.
  • LB TJ Quinn led the Louisville defense with a career-high 11 tackles.
  • DL Ashton Gillotte notched his fifth sack of the season and the 15th of his career.
  • DB Cam'Ron Kelly intercepted a pass in the end zone on NC State's first drive of the second half, ending the Wolfpack drive at the Cards' 15-yard line, and forced a fumble which Ramon Puryear recovered to stall another NC State drive.
    • Kelly has two interceptions in his first season at Louisville.
    • This was Kelly's first forced fumble since joining the Cards.
  • DL Ramon Puryear had the first fumble recovery of his career, ending a third quarter drive for NC State while Louisville was trailing 10-7.
    • Puryear logged his first sack of the season among his five tackles, which included two tackles for loss.
  • DL Jaylin Alderman had a career-high 1.5 tackles for loss to go with four tackles.
