North Carolina Transfer CB Tayon Holloway Commits to Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The transfer portal recruiting hot streak that the Louisville football program is on continues to move full steam ahead.
Tayon Holloway, a cornerback who spent the first two years of his collegiate career at North Carolina, announced Wednesday that he has committed to the Cardinals.
He's the 11th transfer commitment for Louisville since this past Friday, with the Cardinals now landing portal pickups in each of the last six days.
After redshirting his true freshman campaign in 2022, Holloway saw his role on the UNC defense increase this past season. Playing in 10 total games along with six starts, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound corner logged 19 total tackles, 1.5 for loss and one pass breakup.
While the Virginia Beach, Va. native only has one season of in-game experience at the college level, his talent level makes him a valuable asset. Holloway was regarded as the No. 196 prospect in the Class of 2022, according to 247Sports' in-house rankings.
Due to the anticipated roster movement at the cornerback spot, landing Holloway was a much needed recruiting win for Louisville. They are set to lose Storm Duck due to graduation, and are very likely to see both Quincy Riley and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. declare for the NFL Draft, although neither have done so yet. The Cardinals have also seen Derrick Edwards III and Marquis Groves-Killebrew transfer as well.
Holloway is the 16th player to transfer to Louisville in this cycle, and the third defensive back following former UCF cornerback Corey Thornton and former Eastern Illinois safety Blake Ruffin The Cardinals have also seen nine scholarship players enter the portal since the winter transfer window opened on Dec. 4.
Louisville went 10-2 during the regular season with a berth in the ACC Championship Game under first year head coach Jeff Brohm, and are preparing for their Holiday Bowl matchup with USC on Dec. 27.
