Houston Transfer OL Trevonte Sylvester Commits to Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program has landed yet another offensive lineman from out of the transfer portal.
Trevonte Sylvester, a tackle who spent the first three years of his collegiate career with Houston, announced Thursday that he has committed to the Cardinals. He originally committed to Cal back on May 7, but backed off of that verbal pledge eight days later.
Sylvester is the second offensive lineman from Houston to transfer to Louisville this offseason, reuniting with tackle Lance Robinson. He is also the fifth transfer offensive lineman to commit to the Cardinals since mid-April, and the sixth this offseason.
After not seeing any action in his true freshman campaign in 2020 and redshirting the 2021 season, the 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle played 114 total snaps during the 2022 season. 72 came on special teams, with 33 of his 42 offensive snaps - all of which came at left tackle - coming in Houston's win over Rice on Sept. 24. He did not allow a sack or quarterback hit in 17 pass block snaps.
The Breaux Bridge (La) HS product was ranked as the No. 2,063 prospect in the 2020 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite, only holding offers from Louisiana Tech and Houston. He was primarily a defensive end, but also played tight end, and was later converted to an offensive lineman once he got to Houston.
Louisville has been incredibly active in the transfer portal since head coach Jeff Brohm was hired in December. While the Cardinals have lost 21 players via the portal since the end of the 2022 regular season, Sylvester is now the 22nd to transfer in over the offseason, and the eighth since spring ball ended.
The Cardinals finished their 2022 season with an overall mark of 8-5 (4-4 in ACC), including a 24-7 win in the Fenway Bowl over Cincinnati. They'll kick off their 2023 season against Georgia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday, Sept. 1.
