Injury Update: Jay Johnson Talks Garrett Edwards' Injury, Chase Shores
No. 1 LSU has had a rollercoaster season from their bullpen. After starting the season strong, it’s been an up and down ride ever since. The Tigers saw Garrett Edwards, their most reliable piece out of the bullpen, go down on Friday with a concerning elbow injury.
LSU has received positive news after initial evaluations, but no detailed report has been provided just yet.
Along with Edwards, the Tigers have been without freshman Chase Shores over the last few days as he nurses an injury of his own.
Head Coach Jay Johnson provided an injury update on the pair of right-handed pitchers:
Garrett Edwards
Edwards went down with a right elbow injury during Friday’s matchup. After throwing a changeup, the Tigers’ most effective piece out of the bullpen this season exited the game with the entire LSU fanbase wondering the severity.
On Saturday, Head Coach Jay Johnson provided an update:
"Through a preliminary evaluation with our trainer -- it was about as positive as it could be. We're hopeful that it's not serious and that we will have him back soon...I'm not a doctor, never gonna pretend to be a doctor. We'll get them further evaluated when we get home."
Chase Shores
Shores has been wearing a compression sleeve on his arm over the last few days and has been unavailable this week. As the freshman continues going through evaluations, Coach Johnson detailed how they’re doing their due diligence through the process.
"We're doing the best we can, like we would any player, to get as thorough an opinion and evaluations from the best people that are out there. We're getting closer to that."
