Jay Johnson Talks Tommy White's Status, Overall Team Health

Tigers dialed in for postseason play, ready to take on Tulane in Alex Box Stadium on Friday.

Jay Johnson and Co. are dialed in for postseason play as his program gears up for the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers will host the Baton Rouge Regional as they take on the Tulane Green Wave on Friday.

In the Tigers’ loss to Texas A&M on Friday, this program was without the nation’s leader in RBI with Tommy White sidelined. Johnson described it as White needing rest and being “banged up,” but all signs point towards the slugger suiting up on Friday.

Johnson hopped on ESPN's SEC Network on Monday where he detailed White’s status and the team’s overall health:

On Tommy White

"I anticipate him being able to play on Friday. He was a little banged up, but he needed that rest and we gave it to him. It was hard to do… I think it was the right thing for Tommy and ultimately the right thing to do for our team."

On the overall team health

"For the rest of the position players, I think we’re in a good spot. I think a couple days off was not the worst thing in the world. You look at Jordan Thompson, he’s played in every game since I've been the coach here. You look at Dylan Crews, he’s played in every game since I’ve been the coach here.

"Those guys play two of the most demanding positions on the field. So, for them to get a rest and to get their legs underneath them, for them to to get mental rest the last few days, I think was positive. We feel like we have a good plan in preparing for the week and doing the things we need to do to get ready. I feel like we’re in a pretty good spot."
