LSU Baseball: 2023 MLB Draft Tracker
The 2023 MLB Draft kicked off on Sunday night with the LSU baseball program making history after both Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews were selected back-to-back at the top of the order.
The duo became the first pair of teammates to be drafted No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the same MLB Draft.
Along with Skenes and Crews hearing their names called, LSU right-handed pitcher Ty Floyd was also selected in the first round.
Follow along for the live 2023 MLB Draft Tracker to see which Tigers hear their names called:
Paul Skenes - No. 1 Overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates
LSU right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes came to Baton Rouge to perfect his craft, and after one year with the Tigers, he quickly became the top pitcher in all of college baseball. On Sunday, it all came together after Skenes was selected No. 1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Skenes finished the 2023 season with a 12-2 record as LSU’s ace with a 1.69 ERA, which ranked second in the nation. His 209 strikeouts — an SEC record — led the nation, as did his 0.75 walks plus hits per inning pitched.
Dylan Crews - No. 2 Overall to the Washington Nationals
Dylan Crews ended his legendary LSU career as a National Champion, and after rewriting the record books, he departed Baton Rouge as an icon. On Sunday, Crews was selected No. 2 overall by the Washington Nationals in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Crews, a junior from Longwood, Fla., batted .426 (110-for-258) for LSU’s 2023 National Championship team with 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 70 RBI and 100 runs. He was voted to the College World Series All-Tournament Team, batting .375 (12-for-32) in the CWS with one double, one triple, one homer, three RBI and 11 runs scored.
Ty Floyd - No. 38 Overall to the Cincinnati Reds
Ty Floyd took the country by storm after striking out 17 batters against Florida in the College World Series Finals, and after the historic performance, his MLB Draft stock soared. Now, Floyd has been selected No. 38 overall by the Cincinnati Reds.
Floyd, a native of Rockmart, Ga., was voted to the 2023 College World Series All-Tournament Team, as he made two starts and recorded 27 strikeouts in 13.0 innings while limiting opponents to five runs on seven hits and a .156 batting average.
He recorded a brilliant outing in Game 1 of the College World Series Finals vs. Florida (June 24), working 8.0 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits with one walk and a career-high 17 strikeouts. The 17 Ks represented the most by an LSU pitcher in a CWS game and it tied the CWS record for most strikeouts in a game prior to extra innings.
Grant Taylor - No. 51 Overall to the Chicago White Sox
LSU right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor was selected Sunday night in the second round of the MLB Draft (51st pick overall) by the Chicago White Sox.
Taylor, a product of Florence, Ala., did not pitch this season after suffering an elbow injury in February. He pitched in 17 games (two starts) as a true freshman in 2022, recording a 4-1 mark and a 5.81 ERA in 31.0 innings with 21 walks and 39 strikeouts.
Tre' Morgan.- No. 88 Overall to the Tampa Bay Rays
Morgan, a New Orleans, La., native, batted .316 (85-for-269) on the year with 15 doubles, four triples, nine homers, 53 RBI and 66 runs. He finished No. 2 in the SEC in triples, No. 2 in sacrifice flies (8), No. 5 in hit-by-pitch (18), No. 8 in hits and No. 9 in runs scored.
Morgan was voted to the 2023 College World Series All-Tournament Team, batting .344 (11-for-32) with three doubles, one triple, six RBI and six runs. He hit a team-high .556 (5-for-9) in the NCAA Super Regional versus Kentucky with one double, two homers, three RBI and four runs.
Gavin Dugas - No. 165 Overall to the Washington Nationals
Gavin Dugas heads to the Nationals organization alongside his best friend, Dylan Crews. The LSU standout wore the coveted No. 8 jersey for the Tigers during his time in Baton Rouge, epitomizing what it means to be an LSU Tiger.
Dugas spent five seasons at LSU where he appeared in 201 games with 178 starts. The consistent hitter totaled a career batting average of .287 with 35 doubles, five triples, 44 home runs, 148 RBI, and 161 runs scored.
Garrett Edwards - 11th Round Selection by the Tampa Bay Rays
Edwards quickly became the Tigers top reliever out of the bullpen during the 2023 season, but after suffering a torn UCL around the midway point of the year, Tommy John surgery ended his season.
Now, Edwards has the chance to link back up with LSU star Tre' Morgan with the Rays organization. It would appear as though Edwards signs with Tampa Bay as opposed to return to school.
Edwards ended the 2023 season with a 4-0 record and a 3.29 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 23.1 IP.
Blake Money - 12th Round Selection by the Baltimore Orioles
Money entered the 2023 season as a reliable right-handed pitcher out of the Tigers bullpen. After LSU battled the injury bug all year, Money took on a bigger role towards the end of the season.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pounder ended the 2023 season with a 1-0 record with 30 strikeouts in 34.2 IP.
Brayden Jobert - 12th Round Selection by the St. Louis Cardinals
The rise of Jobert throughout the 2023 season was significant. As his confidence grew, so did his productivity. The Louisiana native ended the year with 58 hits, 11 doubles, two triples and 14 home runs with 49 RBI.
Jobert has remaining college eligibility, but for right now, the expectation is he signs with the Cardinals organization and begins his professional career.
Riley Cooper - 13th Round Selection by the Baltimore Orioles
Riley Cooper emerged as the ultimate closer for the Tigers during their 2023 National Championship run in Omaha. A major piece to the pitching success, Cooper shined when the lights were brightest.
Cooper ended the 2023 season with a 5-3 record and 63 strikeouts in 61.1 IP. After taking on a major role towards the backend of the season, Cooper played a pivotal role in what LSU accomplished in the College World Series.
Jordan Thompson - 15th Round Selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers
Jordan Thompson became a key piece for the Tigers all season long due to his defensive wizardry at shortstop. Now, he returns back home to California to begin his professional career. As it stands, Thompson has remaining college eligibility and his status for a return is still in the air.
Thompson ended the 2023 season with 63 hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple and 11 home runs with 53 RBI.
Javen Coleman - 16th Round Selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers
Javen Coleman emerged as a key piece to the rotation after returning this season from Tommy John surgery he underwent in 2022.
After getting back into the rotation, Coleman took time to get back to his old ways, but provided depth to the Tigers' 2023 pitching rotation.
Coleman ended the 2023 season with 21 strikeouts in 14.0 IP.
Christian Little - 19th Round Selection by the New York Mets
Christian Little transferred in from Vanderbilt last summer with the anticipation he'd take on a major workload for this LSU pitching staff, but after struggles at the midway point of the season, Little saw limited action.
The right-handed pitcher ended the 2023 season with a 7.79 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 34.2 IP on the year.
