LSU knew they would be hosting a Regional in Alex Box Stadium this weekend, but after Monday’s Selection Show, this program now knows who they’ll face off against in order to advance to Super Regionals.

The Baton Rouge Regional will consist of No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Oregon State, No. 3 Sam Houston and No. 4 Tulane.

The Tigers will take on the Green Wave on Friday in the first game to get things started. LSU defeated Tulane earlier this year, along with Sam Houston, but are yet to face Oregon State during the 2023 season.

“The difference is you’re not going to play a team in the SEC in the regional,” Johnson said last week. “Next weekend you’re playing teams from outside the league that we probably haven’t seen. Playoff baseball is about executing the game the right way and the game that is in front of you then moving onto the next one. That’s one of the reasons I like to have a preseason tournament.”

The Tigers earning the No. 5 overall seed solidifies the road to Omaha must go through Baton Rouge. If the Tigers win the Baton Rouge Regional, they will be in line to host a Super Regional in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU enters the NCAA Tournament with a 43-15 record as they look to claim the Regional this weekend. If the Tigers advance, they will take on the winner of the Lexington Regional which consists of Kentucky, Ball State, Indiana and West Virginia.

“Mentally, we’re trying to be solid every game we play and mentally this is a group of winners,” Johnson said last week. “It was impressive to go 7-2-1 in the SEC series and not get swept once. They are a confident group. When you’re a confident person you don’t get distracted by failure the way normal people do.”
