LSU's Kim Mulkey Defends Comments Following South Carolina Skirmish

Mulkey doubles down on her postgame statements, stands by what she said following the title game.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey took time on Tuesday to defend her comments made on Sunday afternoon following the Tigers' loss to No. 1 South Carolina in the SEC Tournament title game.

On her weekly appearance on ESPN 104.5's "Off The Bench," Mulkey doubled down on her postgame statements after criticizing the officiating and South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso.

Mulkey said after the game on Sunday that she "wished Cardoso would have pushed Angel Reese" the way she pushed Flau'jae Johnson, a smaller guard.

“I am what I am," Mulkey said. "I have no ill intentions. I have no agenda. I speak from my heart. I speak from my life experiences. And people like it or don’t like it. I have nothing, nothing whatsoever in my heart to harm anybody, but I fight like hell. That’s who I am.”

Following Sunday's showdown, Mulkey detailed how the referees only called two fouls in the fourth quarter before the debacle at the 2:08 mark of the final frame.

Mulkey's Sunday comments:

On the Fight:

"It's ugly. It's not good," Mulkey said. "No one wants to be a part of that. No one wants to see that ugliness. But I can tell you this: I wish (Cardoso) would have pushed Angel Reese. Don't push a kid — you're 6-8. Don't push somebody that little. That was uncalled for, in my opinion. Let those two girls that were jawing, let them go at it."

On the Overall Scene:

“Well let me say this, do you realize there was only one foul called on each team with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, are you kidding me? That might have created some of that. Not the way we play we’re gonna foul your ass. But you only blew that whistle one time? Flau’Jae, from what I saw, intentionally fouled Fulwiley because she stripped her great move because she’s gonna get a layup right there and then some jawing went on with her and another player and then the next thing I know Cardoso came in way later.

"I ran because somebody came out of the stands. I think it was Flau’Jae’s brother trying to keep him from doing anything crazy. Obviously they saw it on film and said everybody had to go and then I think one player for South Carolina didn’t leave the bench. It’s ugly. It’s not good. No one wants to be a part of that. No one wants to see that ugliness But I can tell you this I wish she would have pushed Angel Reese. You’re six-eight. Don’t push somebody that little. That was uncalled for in my opinion. Let those two girls that were jawing let them go at it.”
