Report: Former LSU MBB Coach Will Wade Emerging As Candidate For Ole Miss Job

Wade and Rebels are "picking up some traction" after Ole Miss fired their head coach on Friday.

Ole Miss fired men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis on Friday after an underwhelming 2022-23 season, sparking an immediate coaching search. According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, former LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade has emerged as a candidate for the gig.

LSU fired Wade late last season before the NCAA Tournament amid serious charges from the NCAA regarding recruitment violations over the course of his time in Baton Rouge.

An FBI wiretap captured Wade discussing a “strong-ass offer” for a prospect years back, which was reportedly former LSU guard Javonte Smart, in a call with Christian Dawkins.

Dawkins was later convicted of conspiracy and bribery in relation to dealings across the landscape of basketball.

During Wade’s tenure with the Tigers, he posted a 105-51 record overall and 55-33 in SEC play. It’ll be interesting to monitor the seriousness of Ole Miss and their interest in Wade with a looming court case regarding his violations, but nonetheless, there is reported interest.

Along with Wade, reports have surfaced that the Rebels could be interested in former Texas coach Chris Beard and Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May.

Ole Miss fell to a record of 10-18 this season while posting a 2-10 record in SEC play with just two wins since late December.
