Brian Kelly Provides Key Update on LSU Running Back John Emery
LSU running back John Emery’s time with the football program has been a rollercoaster ride, and with one more year left in the tank, it appears as though the former five-star will be with the program this season.
Brian Kelly provided a key update on Emery’s status as Fall Camp nears in the coming weeks.
“He is in the process of being cleared," Kelly said at SEC Media Days. "I think we’ve got another thing we have to get through, but I feel really good that it's imminent and he’s going to be with us when camp starts.”
Emery has not been with the team this offseason and missed all of Spring Camp as he focused on his academics.
It was a decision Coach Kelly and Emery’s family came to during the offseason as Emery works towards getting his degree from LSU.
“That was the deal with John when talking with his family,” Kelly said during spring ball. “If his primary focus was academics and taking care of his degree then we would have a conversation about football. So right now his focus is 100% on that.”
The former five-star running back, and Louisiana native, has had an underwhelming run with the Tigers during his time in Baton Rouge. As he enters Year 5 with the program, he has the chance to rewrite the narrative and go out on a high note.
A crowded LSU running back room, it’ll be a challenge to receive significant snaps, but Emery certainly has the talent to make an impact this season.
The Tigers added Notre Dame back Logan Diggs during the offseason via the NCAA Transfer Portal. The starter in South Bend, all signs point towards the talented junior carrying a major load for LSU this season as well.
Emery will battle against Diggs, Josh Williams, Armoni Goodwin and more if he gets cleared to return for Fall Camp.
