Five-Star DL Dominick McKinley Locks in LSU Official Visit Date

Brian Kelly and the Tigers will get the No. 1 player in Louisiana down to Baton Rouge for a visit.
In this story:

Brian Kelly and Co. remain in pursuit of five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley as December rolls on. Despite remaining committed to Texas A&M, the coveted prospect has a handful of schools continuing their push.

For the Tigers, they took a step in the right direction after an in-home visit with McKinley and his family last week.

Last week was a big week in the McKinley Sweepstakes while he hosts several programs to Lafayette (La.) for in-home visits with his family.

Kelly and the Tigers wrapped up their visit on Tuesday, and shortly after, he locked in an official visit date to Baton Rouge: Jan. 12-14.

The latest on McKinley's visit schedule last week after bringing in several top programs to his home:

Monday: Syracuse and Tennessee

Former Texas A&M defensive line coach Elijah Robinson took the defensive coordinator position at Syracuse earlier this month and remains in pursuit of McKinley. On Monday, Robinson made the trip down to Louisiana for an in-home visit with McKinley.

Tuesday: LSU

The Bayou Bengals have turned up the heat for McKinley this fall, and in need of depth on the defensive line, they aren't slowing down.

LSU recently hosted four-star defensive lineman Gabriel Reliford for an official visit, and shortly after, the former Texas A&M pledge flipped his commitment to LSU.

Can the Tigers do the same with McKinley? It remains an uphill battle after not receiving an official visit this fall, but now an official is locked in after a productive visit.

Tuesday became a monstrous evening for this program after they sat down with the coveted prospect. Now, an official is confirmed.

Wednesday: Texas A&M

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had the third crack at McKinley on Wednesday while the Aggies look to keep their five-star defensive lineman pledged to their program.

Thursday: Oklahoma

The Sooners, along with Texas, have been two programs receiving the latest buzz if McKinley elects to reopen his recruitment. On Thursday, Oklahoma got their crack at McKinley when they made their way to Lafayette for an in-home visit.

Friday: Texas

Again, the Longhorns have kept their head down in their pursuit of McKinley. They're a program with significant buzz and received the final in-home visit of the week after Steve Sarkisian made his way to Louisiana.

The Buzz: McKinley Changes Signing Dates

McKinley had planned on putting pen to paper during the Early Signing Period, but with significant change in his recruitment this month, he has now changed his Signing Day to the February window.

McKinley will now have time to see the defensive coaching staff changes programs make, specifically with LSU, before locking in his college decision.

The Recap:

Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas all remain in the hunt for McKinley with in-home visits taking now in the rearview mirror last week, but despite it all, he remains pledged to the Aggies at this point in time.

Could he reopen his recruitment? Time will tell, but the next few weeks will be crucial in the McKinley Sweepstakes.
