Former LSU quarterback Max Johnson is headed to the ACC after revealing he will transfer to North Carolina, he announced on Wednesday.

Johnson, who had a quick two-year stint with the Texas A&M Aggies during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, now heads to his third school as a graduate transfer.

Johnson, the son of former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson, revealed his transfer to College Station in 2022 after starting his career in Baton Rouge.

After A&M struggled with Haynes King to begin the 2022 season, Johnson took over the starting job and impressed after throwing for 517 yards and three touchdowns.

Fast forward to the 2023 season, sophomore signal-caller Connor Weigman won the starting job over Johnson in fall camp, but suffered a season-ending lower-body injury in Week 4's win over Auburn.

Following Weigman's injury, Johnson returned to the starting position for five games, completing 118-of-190 passes for 1,452 yards and nine touchdowns against five interceptions.

In four seasons with LSU and Texas A&M, Johnson completed 60.5 percent of his throws for 5,853 yards and 47 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

The Loss for LSU After 2021 Season:

Losing Johnson wasn't an unexpected move, but it happening so quickly into the Brian Kelly Era became telling. The sophomore started in all but one game for the purple and gold in the 2021 season, throwing for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions as a full time starter.

Coincidentally, Johnson's last start for the purple and gold was against Texas A&M where he led a two minute drive in the fourth quarter to help knock off the Aggies 27-24.

"LSU, Thank you for allowing me to pursue my academic and athletic career here," Johnson said after his departure. "I have made strong relationships that will last a lifetime with coaches, staff and especially my teammates! With careful and prayerful consideration, I am entering the transfer portal."

Now, he heads to his third stop where he will suit up for the North Carolina Tar Heels as a graduate transfer in his fifth season of college football.
