When defensive line coach Dennis Johnson severely injured both his knees earlier this offseason, questions arose about how involved Ed Orgeron would have to be with the unit.

Those questions were answered today when it was reported that Orgeron is bringing in long-time mentor and friend Bill Johnson as the new defensive line coach. The news was first reported by Bruce Feldman of the Athletic.

Johnson brings nearly 40 years of coaching experience to the table as he spent 17 years in the NFL with four different clubs including the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints and most recently the Los Angeles Rams.

Orgeron and Johnson have been linked since Orgeron's playing days at Northwestern State, where Johnson was a graduate assistant at the time. Due to the severity of Dennis Johnson's knee injuries, he was unable to perform any on-field duties and led to him being placed in an analytics role this season.
