LSU DL Maason Smith Fully Cleared For Football Activities
LSU star defensive lineman Maason Smith has been fully cleared for football activities, he announced on Instagram. The third-year Tiger took part in individual drills during spring camp, but now fully cleared, the star lineman makes his return.
Smith, who was due for a breakout season in 2022 where many believed he could make an All-American push, went down after celebrating a defensive stop early against Florida State in LSU’s season opener where he ultimately tore his ACL.
Coming into 2023, it’s personal for Smith. He’s ready for a new year where he can showcase his elite athleticism and Brian Kelly is certainly prepared for what the defensive line can do this season with Smith inside.
“You put Maason on the inside, if you do that this year, I don’t know how many sacks you’ll have. You can’t single block him,” Kelly said.
Smith will return for summer workouts during the first week of June after going through spring camp as a limited participant over the final few practices.
It’s showtime for Smith. Entering the 2022 season, many labeled the sophomore as a player who could become a national name in college football before the injury. Now, after nearly 10 months of rehab, he’s back on the field as a full participant.
The third-year Tiger headlines a deep defensive line room for the Tigers. With Smith and Mekhi Wingo inside, this program is loaded with talent up front. Factor in the myriad of weapons on the outside and it’s a recipe for success.
Look for Smith to make an immediate impact in 2023. With the opportunity to take part during summer work and get his feet wet during fall camp, he has the chance to get back to his old ways sooner rather than later for Brian Kelly’s squad.
