LSU sophomore cornerback Denver Harris is "handling some personal matters" and there is a chance he could return to the program this weekend, LSU coach Brian Kelly said on Wednesday.

Harris has been away from the team and absent from Fall Camp this week as he continues dealing with off-the-field matters.

Along with missing three consecutive practices, Harris did not appear in the team picture on Monday.

"If he takes care of everything," Kelly said, "we could have him back this weekend."

The former five-star recruit transferred to LSU during the offseason after one season with the Texas A&M Aggies. During the 2022 season, the true freshman totaled 14 tackles and three pass breakups.

Following disciplinary action taken while in College Station that resulted in Harris being suspended for the final six games of the season, he decided to depart Texas A&M and enter the Transfer Portal.

Kelly and the LSU staff have given Harris a second chance at SEC football and this program did their due diligence before bringing him in.

Prior to bringing Harris in, LSU did a "vetting process" in order to make sure the coveted cornerback checked all the boxes before adding him to the roster.

“We felt with the culture we have put together here that he would make it here because the culture is really strong," Kelly said in March. "It's proven to be that he's done well early on. He has no choice. He has to make it."

"Here's a guy that has been given a second chance, and we feel like because of the circumstances, the culture is strong, he knows this is really his last chance at an SEC opportunity, that it was worth the risk."

Harris remains with the program as Kelly and Co. continue working with a player who can make an impact sooner rather than later if all works out.

The Tigers currently have five scholarship cornerbacks with Zy Alexander and Duce Chestnut taking a majority of the starting reps.

True freshman Ashton Stamps has served as the primary backup, but has also taken snaps with the first team.
