LSU Football: DL Mekhi Wingo May Miss Rest Of The Season
Brian Kelly addressed the media on Monday afternoon and dropped a bombshell regarding the status of star defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo.
Kelly revealed that Wingo will miss the next six weeks and will likely be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
A player who burst on the scene a season ago for the Tigers when Maason Smith went down with an ACL injury, it's a tough blow for the second-year Tiger.
Wingo had been nursing a lower body injury during the first few weeks of the season, and after missing the Army matchup in Week 8, he's now out for the rest of the regular season.
Now with Wingo out of the equation, the Tigers will fall back on Jordan Jefferson and Jacobian Guillory to pick up the slack for this defensive line group.
Jefferson, a player who has shown tremendous production for the Bayou Bengals when on the field, will be thrusted into the mix in a big way for LSU.
For Guillory, he took a significant number of first-team reps during Fall Camp while Smith nursed an ankle sprain.
The LSU defensive line room is deep, but will certainly miss the production of Wingo with three more SEC games on the schedule in Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M.
LSU takes on Alabama this Saturday at 6:45 p.m. in Tuscaloosa with implications surrounding the SEC West crown. A season ago, the Bayou Bengals took down Alabama 32-31 after a jaw-dropping two-point conversion won the contest.
Now, LSU looks to go back-to-back against the Crimson Tide, but will be missing a key piece to the defensive front in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
