Report: LSU to Hire South Carolina's Jimmy Lindsey as Defensive Line Coach

Tigers add another coach with SEC experience with Lindsey set to join Brian Kelly's staff.
In this story:

After LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain reached an agreement with Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos to become their pass rush specialist, it left Brian Kelly with a hole to fill on his coaching staff.

Now, Kelly has found his guy in South Carolina’s Jimmy Lindsey who is expected to take over as the new defensive line coach of the LSU Tigers, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Lindsey has been with the Gamecocks for the last three seasons after working as the defensive ends coach with Illinois in 2020 and Western Kentucky from 2017-19.

The fit makes sense for the Tigers. Lindsey has a previous relationship with LSU defensive coordinator Matt House while the two worked together at Gardner-Webb in 2005 as they look to join forces once again.

Lindsey enters a great situation in Baton Rouge with such a talented defensive line unit. Headlined by Maason Smith and Mekhi Wingo along with a number of gifted transfers looking to make an impact, Lindsey has the players to succeed down South.

For Wingo, he’s fresh off of a dominant sophomore campaign for LSU after posting 47 tackles and three sacks on his way to a career year.

With Smith returning from an ACL injury he suffered during the season opener in 2022, the Tigers are looking strong up front with Lindsey coming in to coach his guys up.

LSU is set to begin summer workouts in June as they continue preparing for their season opener on Sept. 3 against Florida State.
