The Latest On Louisiana Transfer CB Trey Amos
The pursuit of Louisiana transfer cornerback Trey Amos continues to ramp up as he begins taking his visits. Amos, who has received over 15 offers since entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, has quickly become one of the hottest names on the market.
Amos took an unofficial visit to LSU on Friday night where his former Ragin’ Cajuns teammate Kyren Lacy hosted him. It was one filled with photoshoots, campus tours, scenes from Death Valley and more as the former teammates soaked in the visit.
Lacy has handled duties as a big-time recruiter for the Tigers as he looks to get Amos suited up in the purple and gold.
Who else is in the running for Amos? A few other schools to look out for will be Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida, among others.
The Louisiana native receiving an offer from LSU was expected, but Florida will be another school to monitor for the services of Amos. Gators Head Coach Billy Napier recruited Amos out of high school and reeled him over to Lafayette, La. where the two saw immediate success, but now with Napier out in Gainesville, we could see Florida make a big push.
As for Alabama, after Amos took a visit to Baton Rouge on Friday, he turned around and went to visit Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide as well over the weekend (Sunday). Alabama continues to be a major threat in the recruitment of Amos to this point. The Tide could seal the deal soon, but if not, the Tigers remain in the hunt.
There’s optimism Amos will make his way back to LSU for an official visit (as soon as this weekend) before he makes a decision as he begins narrowing his list. LSU and Alabama are certainly two schools to keep an eye on after making his way to both campuses already.
A class of 2020 product, Amos flew under the radar coming out of high school. He attended New Iberia (La.) Catholic but never quite saw his recruitment take off. A last second offer from Tennessee could have swayed him to the SEC, but he remained loyal to Napier and his vision in Lafayette.
During his time with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Amos saw his game improve each season. The 6-foot-1, 197-pounder appeared in 34 games over three seasons with Louisiana. He totaled 59 total tackles with 2.5 for loss, one interception and 14 defended passes, being used primarily as a cornerback, but saw snaps at nickel/safety as well.
The Tigers have seen success in utilizing the portal and securing players from in-state programs, specifically the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Kelly reeled in former Ragin’ Cajuns wide receiver Kyren Lacy last offseason along with defensive back Mekhi Garner. Garner stepped in as a Day 1 starter and Lacy looks poised for a big second season in Baton Rouge.
