The Latest On Notre Dame Transfer RB Logan Diggs

Tigers set to get a visit from the coveted running back, fresh off of checking out another SEC foe.
In this story:

Louisiana native Logan Diggs entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in late April after two seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Since then, the coveted running back has heard from schools all over the country.

Diggs is fresh off of his best season with Notre Dame. After rushing for 821 rushing yards on a team-high 165 carries, while scoring four touchdowns and averaging five yards per carry, Diggs is a hot name on the market.

He’s heard from LSU, USC, South Carolina and Colorado, among others as he continues locking in his visits. Diggs recently visited South Carolina, a program that can offer him immediate playing time against SEC competition, where the visit reportedly went well.

But Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers will get their chance with Diggs this weekend as he makes his way to Baton Rouge for an official visit. For Kelly and Co. to get the New Orleans native to campus is a big victory for this program as they look to give him the red carpet treatment once in town.

We’ve seen Kelly and his staff reel in Louisiana natives who have entered the portal, in fact it’s what Kelly looks for in the portal, and Diggs could be much of the same.

Brian Kelly’s Transfer Portal Message:

“They have got to be the right fit first,” Kelly said. “They have to recognize the value of an education from LSU. They have to have the right traits. We are not just open for business. We’re not just putting a sign up saying, hey, we are going to take whoever. They have to be the right fit. I prefer that they are from the state of Louisiana if we can find them. And then we are going to address needs based upon how that freshman class marries into it by the particular needs by position class.”

The 6-foot, 214-pounder will have two years of eligibility remaining with his next destination.

LSU has players, but there’s a lack of experience and/or health concerns. Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin, who handled starting duties in 2022, have battled injuries this offseason. For Noah Cain, he’s emerged as a starting caliber back, and the Tigers could very well call his number this season.

For senior John Emery, his status remains up in the air as he gets his academics in check. He missed all of spring camp and has been unavailable for much of his college career.

Looking ahead to the future, early-enrollee Trey Holly was a standout during Spring Camp and has the chance to make an impact sooner rather than later. He’ll be accompanied by freshman back Kaleb Jackson as the one-two punch of the future.

LSU has Williams, Cain, Goodwin, Emery, Holly and Jackson set to be their backs this season, but with injury concerns and inexperience, they could look to add Diggs to a loaded running back room.

Diggs has proven he can play at the highest level with the consistency Kelly’s program is looking for.

Look for the Tigers to keep their foot on the gas here with LSU being the team to beat for the services of the Notre Dame transfer running back.
