Top LSU RB Target Locks In Decision Date

The Tigers continue their push for the Texas native, sets decision date next month.

Brian Kelly and Co. continue their push for four-star running back Caden Durham as the Texas native prepares to make a decision on where he will play at the next level.

It’s been a battle between LSU and Oklahoma, among others, over the last few months, and Durham is now ready to make his announcement. The Duncanville (Tex.) product has set a commitment date for August 25.

During an appearance on The Jordy Culotta show, Durham confirmed his decision to reveal a commitment before the South Oak Cliff game.

“I will be committing game day against South Oak Cliff on August 25,” Durham said.

Where do the Tigers stand in his recruitment? They’re at the top of his list, but it will be a fight against Oklahoma down the stretch.

LSU in the Running

Durham took official visits to Oklahoma, UTSA and Texas A&M this summer, keeping an official visit to Baton Rouge in his back pocket during his senior year.

Running backs coach Frank Wilson, one of the top recruiters in the entire country, is the primary guy in Durham’s recruiting process. The two have developed a significant relationship as Wilson makes a push for one of the nation’s top backs.

“Coach Frank, that’s my guy,” he said. “He built the most trust in me. I can call him up for anything, and he’s got me. He can walk me through anything.”

We’ve seen Wilson work his magic on the recruiting trail for years, and with Durham sitting atop the Tigers “2024 wish list,” it’s understood what his commitment would mean for this program.

What Sticks Out About LSU?

Durham has felt a family-type of vibe when he’s taken unofficial trips to Baton Rouge. Every time he makes the trip to Death Valley it feels like the first time, but the opportunity to play at the highest level stands out most.

“LSU, it’s LSU,” he said. “Can’t nothing go wrong going to LSU. The proof is in the pudding. You see it. If you go to LSU, you have a high chance to go to the NFL. If you want to go to the NFL, why not go to LSU?”

Another piece of the puzzle is LSU’s track and field program. Durham will be a two-sport star at the next level with the Tigers offering him in both football and track.

Both LSU and Oklahoma have turned up the heat when it comes to pursuing him in both sports, but for the Sooners, it’s important to note Durham’s mother was a member of their track and field program during her time in Norman.

Despite this, LSU has stuck out for the Texas native as they make their push. The Tigers have seen Durham make the trip to Baton Rouge on several occasions this offseason with a decision date now set.

As August 25 nears, LSU will certainly keep their foot on the gas for one of the top prospects on their wish list in the 2024 cycle.
