Anthony Cowan is making the most of his final year with the Terrapins
Anthony Cowan has always been a Maryland Terrapins fan, both born and raised in Bowie, Maryland. He has been the heart of this team ever since he stepped foot in the Xfinity Center. With Cowan playing in his final season with the Terrapins, he is quietly enjoying the best year of his college basketball career.
The senior guard is coming off a three-game stretch away from home where he averaged 24 points per game. Not only did the Terrapins win the Orlando Invitational championship, Cowan set a career-high with 30 points scored in the quarterfinals against Temple.
He is on pace to shatter his personal best in points scored in a single season. Last year he averaged 18 points and scored a total of 531 points. This year, he is averaging 22 points and already has 137 points through eight games.
Thanks to Cowan, the Terrapins are currently having one of their best starts in program history. They remain undefeated winning eight-straight games to begin a season for the first time since 2006. He is the facilitator and the Terrapins' most consistent scorer.
He has already proven to be one of the most prolific players that the Maryland men's basketball program has ever had. His 1,512 points in his career is good enough to move him up to 17th on the Terrapins' all-time scoring list. There are 23 games remaining in Maryland's regular season schedule, giving Cowan plenty of time to continue to move up in the record books.
On Wednesday, No. 5 Maryland will host Notre Dame at the Xfinity Center.
