Maryland Men's Basketball jumps to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 poll
Maryland Terrapins (17-4) are winners of four-straight games, all against Big Ten opponents. Not only did Mark Turgeon get to watch his hometown Kansas City Chiefs win a Super Bowl, his basketball team propelled its way back into the top 10 in the latest rankings.
After the Terrapins' loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes in early January, they responded by defeating them 82-72 in an exciting rematch at the Xfinity Center.
Before that, they won two-straight games on the road against Northwestern and Indiana. All four of their losses this season happened away from home but the Terrapins were able to silence their critics by pulling off some big upsets.
Anthony Cowan is coming off a career game against Iowa, scoring a career-high 31 points. Prior to this game, Jalen "Stix" Smith led the team in points five games in a row.
Maryland is looking like one of the most dangerous college basketball teams in the nation, as the Terrapins seem to have regained their confidence. This team remains undefeated at home (12-0), have won games on the road, and their top playmakers are performing to expectation.
Just like last week, there were not many big changes to the power rankings. Baylor (19-1), Gonzaga (23-1), Kansas (18-3), and San Diego State (23-0) remain as the top four teams in their respective order. Florida State (18-3) drop down to No. 8 as Louisville take their place as the No. 5 team. Creighton (17-5) and Arizona (15-6) are the new teams to enter the poll, as they were previously unranked.
