Anthony McFarland Jr intends to enter the 2020 NFL Draft
Sophomore running back Anthony McFarland Jr will forgo the remaining two years of eligibility and enter the 2020 NFL Draft, announced on his twitter account earlier today.
McFarland was the rated the 3rd-best running back nationally and the 2nd-best player in the state of Maryland by 247 Sports in 2017. Born in Hyattsville, Maryland, he decided to stay local and join his hometown team.
In his first year as a Terrapin, he did not see any game action during his redshirt season. In 2018, he was finally given the opportunity to play and made the most of it. His 1,034 rushing yards was the most by any freshman running back in Maryland's history. He also became the second player to ever rush for over 200 yards in back-to-back games as a Terrapin. The biggest game of his career was his 298 rushing yards performance against a good Ohio State team.
This season, McFarland and the entire Maryland offense struggled to get things going in the right direction. The Terrapins finished in second-to-last place in the Big Ten East standings with a 3-9 record, losing their last seven games to cap off the year. Even then, McFarland still put up solid numbers. He had 740 scrimmage yards and scored nine total touchdowns. In Maryland's final game of the season against Michigan State, he rushed for a season-high 134 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Throughout his two years, he has demonstrated his playmaking ability as well as a player that the Terrapins could rely on. At 5-9 203 pounds, he might be smaller than the average running back but he makes up for it with his speed. He could be the most underrated running back to enter the 2020 draft and his upside should make him a day three NFL pick at the very least.
