Maryland has a pair of defensive backs committed in the 2021 class in Jayon Venerable and Dante Trader, but the staff has offers out to a handful of junior college prospects with local ties. East Mississippi cornerback Khyree Jackson falls right into that category as the former Wise product has developed into a coveted prospect.

The top target announced his top ten on Twitter, taking the next step in his recruitment. Florida State, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas Tech and West Virginia made the cut for the 6-foot-3, 197-pound cornerback.

After showing sporadic interest in the year leading up to the offer, outside linebacker coach Brawley Evans connected with Jackson to become the latest school to offer in late March. As he and the staff build the relationship with the defensive staff, Jackson talks about why the hometown team is in the mix.

“Things are going well with them, it’s 50/50 on who I hear from—coach Hoke or Brawley,” he told AllTerrapins. The lack of visits looms large in Jackson’s recruitment as getting a chance to see each suitor in-person will become the biggest determining factor. As for now, taking that next step in his recruitment help he and coaches narrow their focus.

“Those are just the ten schools I want to focus on. I want to sit down with my parents and talk about where I want to visit and when, I don’t find the virtual visits good so getting out to see them is the next step.”

In eight games, Jackson finished with 22 tackles, one pass breakup and three interceptions in his lone season at Fort Scott Community College.
