Colorado's Size Proves Too Much, Beats Miami 90-63
Going into this game, it was going to come down to Miami's pace of play versus Colorado's size advantage as the determining matchup in this game. On Sunday evening, Colorado ran away with it and shut down the Hurricanes.
Without their star freshman Cody Williams, the Buffaloes dominated the glass en route to a 90-63 victory of the Hurricanes. It was a collective effort from Colorado, with six players finishing as double-digit scorers led by Tristan da Silva's 22 point near triple-double.
For Miami, they weren't able to get enough from their starters resulting in their second loss of the season. Matthew Cleveland led the team in scoring with an efficient 17 points.
One of the main issues was the sheer amount of turnovers the Hurricanes totaled. Wooga Poplar had six turnover as the breakout junior had his worst game of the season. Miami finished the game with 20 turnovers, a number far too high to be competitive with.
Furthermore, Colorado dominated Miami in the rebound differential collecting 33 in comparison to Miami's 21. The Hurricanes weren't helped by Norchad Omier's foul troubles, as he fouled out with just under seven minutes left in the second half.
In terms of Miami's adjustments going forward, the points of emphasis continue to be turnovers and rebounding as they've been all season.
Poplar's on-ball creation troubles continue, as he may need to shift to a more off-ball approach if turnovers continue. Additionally, Miami's reserve bigs need to improve their rebounding as the Hurricanes suffer when Omier sits.
However Miami will get three more non-conference games to dial themselves back in before ACC play begins with their matchup against undefeated Clemson on January 3rd.
It hasn't been great for the Hurricanes since returning from the Baha Mar Hoops Tournament, but the last two seasons have shown Jim Larrañaga has been able to turn it around when it matters most.
