John Ruiz Joins SportsCenter, Talks NIL and LifeWallet
At this point you are probably living under a rock if you don't know who John Ruiz is. The billionaire Miami alum is the founder of LifeWallet, a company that has provided hundreds of collegiate athletes with NIL deals.
As Coach Jim Larrañaga and his Canes gear up for their game versus UConn, Ruiz joined SportsCenter this afternoon to discuss NIL, LifeWallet, and the Miami Hurricanes.
When asked about Miami's success in the NIL space, Ruiz was quick to point out that rather "Miami has the most transparent platform in the country".
There's absolutely no lie there, as Ruiz's tweet regarding former Kansas State guard Nijel Pack's LifeWallet deal took the internet by storm this summer.
Now today, Pack has played an instrumental role in Miami's Final Four run, recently capturing MVP of the Midwest Region.
Another topic that was discussed was the infractions ruling against the University of Miami, which was centered around the recruitment of women's basketball players Haley and Hanna Cavinder.
Following the news on that, it was reported that Ruiz would potentially engage in a lawsuit against the NCAA due to the claims made against him. Ruiz confirmed that on SportsCenter saying "we are filling suit [against the NCAA]".
Lastly, Ruiz was asked about and spoke on the tremendous marketing that has been for LifeWallet through his NIL agreements with athletes.
He mentioned that it was a strategical decision by him and his team to tweet out the Pack deal, in order to further promote the company. As a result, he touched on that fact that "every single article about Miami has LifeWallet in it".
No matter what you may think of Ruiz, he's done a fantastic job at putting his companies in the spotlight by the backing of the star athletes that represent them. Now, he gets to sit back and watch his beloved Canes compete for a chance at their first men's basketball National Championship.
