Miami fans were expecting Coach Jim Larrañaga and his staff to hit the transfer portal hard after a Final Four run, especially with Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller wrapping up their Hurricane careers.

However, it didn't pan out like that, as Miami's staff really had just one player on their minds: Florida State's Matthew Cleveland. It took a trip up to Tallahassee by Larrañaga and associate head coach Bill Courtney, and it was enough for Cleveland to decide on the Hurricanes.

When asked about how he ended up in Coral Gables during the transfer portal process, Cleveland said the biggest reason came down to Miami's history with transfers. Some of the notable ones in recent memory that were able to drastically improve Miami's system include Charlie Moore, Kameron McGusty, and the aforementioned Miller.

Cleveland elaborated by talking about how whether it be their first year or second year in the system, Miami's transfers have been able to take a significant step in their development. With the skills Cleveland possesses, there's no doubt that his game will take a step up.

Despite being a former-five-star recruit, Miami fans unfortunately know Cleveland more for his on-court heroics last year as he sunk the game-winning shot to put an end to Miami's home-court winning streak. But good news for Miami fans, he's yet to revisit the spot and it seems everyone has embraced Cleveland since joining.

As for Cleveland and the rest of the team, they'll be in action this Sunday for an exhibition game at the Watsco Center before kicking off the season with a matchup against NJIT on November 6th at 7:00 PM EST.
