Miami Hurricanes Lands At 13 On Basketball Preseason AP Poll
After a long offseason, the wait is over as the preseason college basketball poll is here! After a making their first Final Four appearance this past March, the Miami Hurricanes come in at 13 for the AP Poll. The Canes are the second highest ranked ACC team. The rest of the poll is as follows:
1. Kansas
2. Duke
3. Purdue
4. Michigan State
5. Marquette
6. UConn
7. Houston
8. Creighton
9. Tennessee
10. Florida Atlantic
11. Gonzaga
12. Arizona
13. Miami (FL)
14. Arkansas
15. Texas A&M
16. Kentucky
17. San Diego State
18. Texas
19. North Carolina
20. Baylor
21. USC
22. Villanova
23. Saint Mary's
24. Alabama
25. Illinois
While many believed that Miami should've been a top ten team in the rankings, it's been well-documented that the Hurricanes haven't been respected in the AP Polls. After making the Elite Eight in the 2021-22 and losing to the eventual national champion Kansas Jayhawks, Miami still didn't finish ranked at the end of the season.
Additionally, Miami finished at just 16th on the final AP Poll after making the Final Four. So as you can see, Miami has yet to gain the full respect from the voters.
While Miami did lose their two best players in Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller, the emergence of Wooga Poplar and the transfer of Matthew Cleveland should help fill in most of the void.
If I were to give my ideal place for Miami on the rankings, it would have to be somewhere between 8-10. Consecutive Elite Eight appearances to go with a still very talented roster should be enough to crack the top ten.
However, Jim Larrañaga and this Miami team has thrived the last two years being the underdogs. Whether it was being counted out in games against Duke and UNC or not being ranked high enough, it has always worked in Miami's favor.
Miami will have a chance before ACC play starts to move up into the top ten, as they'll play UCF, Colorado and Kentucky. If they are able to run the table against their non-conference opponents, Miami should surely be in the top ten of the polls.
