Miami Jumps To A Top Three Class In The Nation Amid Hot Recruiting Run

After consecutive Elite Eight runs and a trip to the Final Four, the Miami Hurricanes have now established themselves as a rising basketball force in the ACC. While the roster continues to lose key veterans to the pros, Coach Jim Larrañaga decided this recruiting cycle was time to start adding some top high school talent.

Even with two basketball "blue bloods" in Kansas and Villanova in his top three, five star shooting guard Jalil Bethea has decided Miami is where he'll call home starting next Fall.

Bethea, a 6-foot-4 guard from Pennsylvania, burst onto the scene at the Nike EYBL where he put his shooting skills on display shooting over 40% from three and 59% inside the arc. A consensus Top 10 recruit, Bethea's elite guard skills match perfectly to the system Larrañaga has built over the last two years.

Bethea becomes the third Hurricanes recruit this month, joining four star Austin Schwartz and three star Isaiah Johnson-Arigu. Additionally, Bethea becomes the highest rated Miami recruit ever per 247 Sports taking the top spot over Brooklyn Nets guard Lonnie Walker IV.

With his commitment, Miami's 2024 recruiting class jumps all the way to the #3 spot in the country behind Rutgers and North Carolina.

To put how crazy of a turnaround this is for Miami into perspective, the Hurricanes finished the 2020-21 with a 10-17 record where many began questioning if Larrañaga would be on his way out.

Now with Bethea announcing his commitment to the Hurricanes, Miami has now become an attractive destination to more recruits looking to build the next wave of Hurricanes basketball. Still with plenty of high profile talent on the board, the recruiting cycle is wide open.

While it won't be until Fall 2024 before Bethea will make his Hurricanes debut, Miami has their focus on making yet another big tournament run and firmly establishing themselves as a basketball powerhouse.

However, Miami fans can look forward to a young core of Schwartz, Bethea and Michael Nwoko to be the future of the program.
