Roberts, Miami Advance To Elite 8 With Upset Over Villanova

Miami Women's Basketball Makes Their First Elite 8 In Program History in 70-65 Win

The Miami Women's Basketball team shocked the nation with their upset victory over Indiana in Bloomington this past Monday. However, Katie Meier and her team weren't content just that.

In a matchup against the nation's leading scorer Maddy Siegrist and Villanova, Miami fought off a valiant comeback effort to advance to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history with a 70-65 victory.

Miami was helped to this victory by Jasmyne Roberts scoring 26 points and Destiny Harden's 15 as well. Additionally, Miami dominated the battle on the boards keeping Villanova from capitalizing on second chance points.

Siegrist still dominated, with a game-high 31 points and 13 rebounds. However, Villanova struggled with efficiency shooting just 36.5% from the field.

Just like when Miami upset Indiana, fans were quick to react on Twitter as the program makes their run deeper into March.

Miami awaits to see who their opponent will be in the Elite 8 as LSU faces Utah at 5:00 PM EST.

With Miami's women win, they'll wait for their male counterparts to see if they can pull off the upset against Houston at 7:15 PM EST. If both programs come out victorious, there's a chance the Canes can be the only school in the country with both men's and women's programs in the Elite 8.

As for now, the Canes can celebrate their big-time win and rest up before their next matchup.
