A Florida State Media Member Likes Miami's Chances To Win The ACC?
Should Miami be the favorite to win the ACC?
As surprising as it might sound for Miami fans, a respected member of Florida State's media believes the Hurricanes should be strongly considered as the top contender for the ACC title.
Obviously, the Seminoles and Hurricanes have long since been rivals. That's why it's rare to see such transparency from a member of the media.
One big reason this is the case would be Miami adding Washington State quarterback Cam Ward. It's a discussion that took place on a Jan. 15 podcast. This first quote is a take on Ward, and the Canes, from Bud Elliott of 247 Sports and CBS.
"I think it's a great get for Miami," Elliott says of the podcast that covers college football topics from coast to coast. "Like Miami, (it) has a pretty good chance to be favored in the ACC next year. Because Ward was...basically every school I know thought he was the top guy in the (Transfer) Portal for quarterbacks. That's a big get for them."
Just a little bit later, Elliott brings up a great question about Miami's personnel.
"Best offensive line in the league. (The) best quarterback in the league now (as well)?"
Elliott is correct about Miami being loaded along the offensive trenches. Adding Ward might provide the Canes with the ACC's top quarterback. Here's an overall point that Elliott makes about the importance of UM gaining Ward's signature.
"This is a pretty big deal for them. Like they could absolutely win the league."
Even further into the podcast, Elliott brings up a great question; one with the notion of it being a rhetorical answer.
"Are they (Miami) favored in all 12 games?"
Overall, Elliott certainly gives Miami quite a few compliments. Now, it's not like Elliott or other members of the Cover 3 Podcast will give UM the 2024 ACC title. There are many unanswered questions about the Hurricanes and other teams like Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, and North Carolina State among others.
There are also comments in the Cover 3 Podcast that take shots at Mario Cristobal for his in-game coaching decisions. In fact, several of those.
The point remains. A true FSU fan bringing up Miami as an ACC title contender, unsolicited, is about as rare as it can be.
