Former Hurricane Kevin Beard's Hired to Round Out Miami's Offensive Staff

Kevin Beard To Rejoin His Alma Mater's Coaching Staff Ahead of Spring Ball

Ever since Josh Gattis was let go from the Miami Hurricanes staff, fans and media have been predicting and making wishes for who would be the next wide receivers coach. Today ahead of the start of spring ball, head coach Mario Cristobal and Miami have reportedly found their solution.

Toledo's wide receiver coach and former Miami Hurricane himself Kevin Beard is set to join the Miami Hurricanes recruiting staff as receivers coach, multiple reports confirm. After a long stretch of weeks, Miami settles on another former Cane to join the staff.

Looking at the resume of Beard, he has been one of the top receiver coaches in the MAC since his arrival there. He has coached All-MAC wide receivers and finished as the number five recruiter in the MAC for the Class of 2022.

Before his stop in Toledo, he's spent time at Tennessee, Georgia, Miami and high school. He last coached on the Hurricanes staff as the wide receivers/passing game coordinator in 2015, where he coached and developed a plethora of NFL talent, most notably David Njoku and Braxton Berrios.

In terms of the hiring, the response has been positive so far. Specifically, No. 1 wide receiver recruit and Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith was quick to comment on the receivers coach via Twitter on Tuesday evening. While Smith may be committed to Ohio State, the hiring of Beard may help the Hurricanes flip the receiver.

Miami starts off their spring football campaign this Saturday, March 4. Beard will be looking to develop/coach a wide receivers group that was underwhelming last season following the departure of Charleston Rambo.
