Hurricanes Spring Football: A First Look At Miami's Signal Callers
It's day one of spring football for the Miami Hurricanes, and all eyes were glued to see what's in store for the 2024 season.
As expected the attention was on Miami's transfer quarterback Cam Ward from Washington State, who showed out with his new offense during day one.
Throwing to his first team offense of Jacolby George, Xavier Restrepo, Isaiah Horton, and Elijah Arroyo, Ward had some high caliber throws in his first public practice that show why he'.
While Ward showed out during day one of practice, a surprise was just how good Albany transfer Reese Poffenbarger looked. A player who was expected to compete for the starting role before Ward transferred over, Poffenbarger lit it up with some great downfield passes. Poffenbarger dominated in FCS last season for the Great Danes, throwing for 3,614 yards and 36 touchdowns.
Regarding Emory Williams, who started two games for Miami this past season and went down with an injury against Florida State, he practiced and didn't seem to be restricted by his injury. Williams injured his left arm while running for the first down against Florida State.
For Jacurri Brown, there wasn't much to report on him after the first day of practice. Brown flashed his potential in a start for Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers and decided not to transfer this offseason despite many believing he would. He's a player to watch this spring in the battle for the backup job.
Lastly, with true freshman quarterback Judd Anderson the takeaway is simple, he's a giant in this quarterback room. Listed at 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds, he has the ideal size for a prototypical pro-style quarterback. However, with the talent around him, there's no doubt he'll be using this season to redshirt.
