Jimmy Johnson looks to inspire Hurricanes

Certain statements test the sands of time. For a former Miami Hurricanes coach, he certainly knew how to define winning with a speech.

Former Miami head coach Jimmy Johnson (1984-1988) won a title as the leader of the Canes in 1987. He had players like Michael Irvin, Craig Erickson, Brian Blades and Bennie Blades on the roster.

It was a special time during the Miami Hurricanes football history. Although incredibly talented, Miami also possessed a desire to be great. That’s what helped to separate Miami from the majority of college football programs.

Johnson talked about that point with Miami players, and it’s something that never truly changed from the time when he was leading the Hurricanes from the sidelines until modern day.

"All I ask of you...is all you got," Johnson stated. "You give me all you got, you give me your best, there are going to be great things happen here."

From start to finish, that was a great speech by Johnson. Those words helped to signify why he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2020, won two Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, and will continue to be a Miami Hurricanes legend as well.

It’s always good to look back at greatness and remember why it happened. Hopefully Johnson’s words also help the current Hurricanes make an upwards climb through the end of spring ball and motivate them between now and the start of August’s fall camp.
