After a 5-7 season in Coach Mario Cristobal’s first year, the Miami Hurricanes have seen multiple coaching moves.

The most notable move was the shift to the Air Raid offense with Shannon Dawson replacing Josh Gattis as Offensive Coordinator. One of Dawson’s first moves was to add a young and up and coming offensive mind to his staff as an offensive analyst, Max Drisko.

Drisko received his Bachelors in Exercise and Sports Science at Texas Tech and worked as a student assistant on the staff during his four year college tenure from 2010-2013. Texas Tech is known for the Air Raid Offense since the legendary Mike Leach ran the program from 2000-2009.

Since then, the Red Raiders have bought into that philosophy with their other coaches who Drisko learned under such former SEC Coach of the Year and current Alabama Senator Tommy Tubberville, and former Texas Tech and Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury. In his time at Texas Tech, Drisko worked with two NFL Quarterbacks as well: Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb.

Upon graduation, Drisko pursued his masters in Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky where he worked as a Graduate Assistant from 2013-2015 and connected with Shannon Dawson. Dawson had just a one year stint in 2015 as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with Kentucky. He then went to Southern Miss and brought Max Drisko with him as a Graduate Assistant.

Drisko worked primarily with Quarterbacks. Under his tutelage, signal caller Nick Mullens became the all time career leader in passing yards, touchdowns, and passing attempts at Southern Miss, as well as the record holder for single-season and single-game passing yards in Southern Miss history.

Despite being in his 20s, Drisko had already successfully worked with multiple NFL quarterbacks, so Catholic University decided to bring him on their staff.

In just his second year on the staff he was promoted to offensive coordinator, and the offense greatly improved in 2018 and 2019. Thus earning another promotion to assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.

After a canceled 2020 season, Catholic University returned to play in 2021 and it racked up nearly 27 points and 300 passing yards a game. Then, this past year despite playing four different quarterbacks, his Catholic offense led the NEWMAC in passing yards and touchdowns. Catholic finished with a 5-1 conference record.

That's when Dawson took note of his mentee’s success at Catholic and hired him to coach at The U. Drisko’s impact will be seen in the offense this year as his five years of calling plays will bring fresh ideas to Miami.

This offense can be quarterback friendly with the right people coaching it, so look for Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and the offense to get back on track this year with Dawson calling the plays and.
