Will Miami's Cam Ward Fulfill This "Daring Prediction" Next Season?
Cam Ward was the top ranked quarterback to transfer into the ACC this offseason.
Expectations are high in Miami for the former Washington State Cougar. With 3,735 passing yards in 2023, Ward threw for more yards than ACC leader Drake Maye (3,608) of North Carolina last season. Three of the ACC's top five passing leaders from last year: Maye, Louisville's Jack Plummer and FSU's Jordan Travis, are off to the pros. Clemson's Cade Klubnik and Georgia Tech's Haynes King are the conference's top returning passers.
Will Ward's success in the PAC 12 translate to the ACC? Brad Crawford from 247Sports certainly thinks so.
Crawford wrote "10 daring predictions" for the 2024 college football season. Among them, he predicts ACC Player Of The Year for Ward.
"There's one Heisman darkhorse (at +2000 odds or greater) flying under the radar a bit entering spring practice. Given how stout Miami's offensive line is expected be next season along with a bevy of talented playmakers around him, Washington State transfer Cameron Ward could take the ACC by storm as the league's top quarterback, both in production and national notoriety. Ward's father said he declined NIL offers "north of $1 million" before announcing his NFL Draft in January. Later, he decided another year of college football would best-suit his career development and chose the Hurricanes. Florida State, NC State and Louisville will also have transfer starters and Clemson brings back Cade Klubnik at the position. Given uncertainty all around at quarterback in the ACC's top-tier, why not Ward for the league's player of the year?"
Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis won the award in 2023.
