The Miami Hurricanes defensive backs gave up a handful of big plays against North Carolina. Is there cause for concern moving forward?

The Miami Hurricanes didn't have any answers for the Drake Maye to Tez Walker connection this past Saturday. Walker caught six passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns.

Miami has the 60th rated passing defense in America out of 130 FBS teams. That's not terrible but the numbers say it's average. The rushing defense, by comparison, ranks ninth.

I sat down with colleague Brian Smith to break down Miami's defensive backfield.

"They're not gonna play another Tez Walker with that speed and that size," Smith said of Miami's remaining schedule. We can't put too much blame on Jaden Davis for getting beaten by Walker. He should have had safety help. Davis has been excellent for most of the season.

"They've gotta figure something out because teams are just gonna start throwing (against Miami) deep. It's on film now that you can go over the top against the Canes."

Clemson might not be the type of team to exploit that, but they will try. They've been more of a running team behind tailbacks Will Shipley and Phil Mafah. The duo has combined for 791 yards and 7 touchdowns so far.

Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik has been more of a game manager, but he does have a pair of receivers, Beux Collins and Tyler Brown, with at least 338 receiving yards apiece.

Klubnik has only thrown two interceptions to eleven touchdowns. Miami will try and pressure him they way they did to Maye early on, but will need to sustain that for four quarters.

Will we see more playing time in the future from additional Miami Hurricanes cornerbacks like Davonte Brown, Damari Brown and Jadais Richard?

How much blame should go to the safeties and the defensive coordinator for the handful of coverage breakdowns?
