Miami Hurricanes Fall Camp: Newcomers Turning Heads In First Two Sessions
Young players and new transfers have already made an impact in the early days of Miami Hurricanes fall camp.
Freshman receiver Nathaniel "Ray Ray" Joseph has shown off his speed and received praise from veteran teammates.
"Ray Ray is my guy," said Xavier Restrepo. "As you can tell, the kid is super fast. He's doing a great job listening and taking in coaching and leadership."
Colbie Young cited Joseph as a receiver who has really stood out.
I watched Ray Ray closely on day one and he hauled in some nice balls in 7 on 7 drills. His quickness and shiftiness reminds me of former Miami stars like Roscoe Parrish and Santana Moss.
On Wednesday, he got some first team reps.
Restrepo also praised the speed of Alabama transfer Tyler Harrell and the playmaking ability of Reedley College transfer Shemar Kirk.
Meanwhile, true freshman cornerback Damari Brown received some reps with the first team defense on Wednesday. His older brother Davonte, who just transferred in from UCF, is likely to start at one corner spot. Could both siblings end up at the top of the depth chart?
Damari not only has great length for an outside corner at 6-1, but his experience playing against top competition at American Heritage has likely prepared him for making a quick jump into the college game.
The Browns are not the only fresh faces at defensive back turning heads. Vanderbilt transfer Jadais Richard was my standout player in practice one. He intercepted Tyler Van Dyke and created a key pass-breakup on an Emory Williams throw.
Oklahoma transfer DB Jaden Davis has been the subject of plenty of buzz. He's trending to become Miami's starter at the nickel/star position. Te'Cory Couch, who played in that role last season, has been getting reps on the boundary.
Miami will enjoy a day off on Thursday. They'll return to the Greentree fields on Friday, August 4th, for Day 3.
