Hurricanes RB Thad Franklin To Enter Transfer Portal
A Miami player will enter the transfer portal for the second time this week.
Veteran defensive back Gilbert Frierson announced his decision on Tuesday, and running back Thaddius Franklin Jr. will enter the portal as well, according to his NIL representative, Loyalty Above All. The news was first reported by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Franklin also announced his decision in an Instagram post.
In his almost two seasons at Miami, Franklin rushed for 381 yards and seven touchdowns on 73 carries. He also caught six passes for 59 receiving yards.
The 6-foot-0, 240-pound running back received a 2022 season-high 15 attempts in Miami's loss to Middle Tennessee State in Week 4, but his playing time has decreased. Most recently, Franklin ran for seven yards on three carries in UM's win over Georgia Tech.
Before his time at Miami, Franklin enjoyed an illustrious high school career at Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.) Prep, rushing for 5,174 yards and 51 touchdowns. He helped lead the Lions to state championships in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
He chose Miami over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M, among others. Franklin was ranked out of high school as the 251st-best player and 17th-best running back in the 2021 recruiting cycle by the On3 Sports consensus rankings
