Miami Hires Tulane's Lance Guidry As New Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator
The Miami Hurricanes have hired Tulane defensive coordinator Lance Guidry to fill the same role in Coral Gables, the program announced on Wednesday.
The hire was first reported by CaneSport last week.
"Interception" is certainly the proper way to describe this move. Guidry had just left Marshall for Tulane and had been announced by the Green Wave less than a month ago, on January 17th.
Guidry had two excellent seasons as DC at Marshall. He's known for his aggressive style and his Thundering Herd ranked 8th in the country in total defense last season. They ranked 3rd in America in yards per play allowed and 3rd in red zone defense. Marshall's opponents averaged just 16 points per game.
Guidry has worked his way up in the group of five over the years. He's had previous stops at Western Kentucky, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana and FAU.
Miami will be Guidry's first stop in the Power Five.
Miami lost defensive coordinator Kevin Steele just two days ago. While offensive coordinator has been open for multiple weeks after the dismissal of Josh Gattis, it didn't take Cristobal long to address the defense.
