Miami Hurricanes Injury Update: RB Chris Johnson & DL Akheem Mesidor Healthy Again, Practicing
Mario Cristobal announced to the media after Monday's practice that freshman running back Christopher Johnson Jr is back to full health after being banged up for a few days.
Not just Johnson, but fourth year junior defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor, too. Cristobal referred to Mesidor's ailment as getting "nicked up in a camp kind of way." That means he isn't nursing anything serious, but the staff was being cautious with him.
"We held him out for about four or five days because that's what the doctor felt would be best. It was a rest thing as opposed to a structural thing. Today he practiced full and he seems back to form."
Mesidor was one of Miami's top players last season. In 2022 he earned All-ACC Honorable mention honors after recording 38 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and a team high 7 sacks.
As for Johnson, Cristobal noted that he, too, was a full participant in Monday's practice. Monday was Johnson's first day back after missing about a week. "Chris came out today and did a nice job."
Johnson can carve himself a niche within Miami's deepening running back room. The former Dillard High School standout starred not only on the football team, but the track team.
In 2022, Johnson set a 3A State Championship record in the 200m, running it in 20.40 seconds.
With speed like this, Johnson can be a home run hitter on offense or special teams.
