The Miami Hurricanes Should Promote Jason Taylor To Defensive Ends Coach

Canes DE coach Rod Wright is reportedly leaving Miami for a job with the Houston Texans. Alex Donno argues that Mario Cristobal does not need to look far to find his replacement.

In this story:

Miami's offseason of turnover continues. The Hurricanes have already had to replace their defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and running backs coach. The wide receivers coach job is still open.

Now, Miami is looking for a new defensive ends coach, too. Rod Wright is reportedly heading to the NFL.

Hiring Wright's replacement could be the easiest decision Mario Cristobal has ever made.

PROMOTE JASON TAYLOR.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer is already on staff. Taylor spent the 2022 season as a defensive analyst. It's been widely reported that Taylor is well liked inside and outside the Hurricanes facility. Mario Cristobal appreciates his work.

Taylor has made a strong impression on Miami's current crop of defensive ends and is commonly mentioned by top recruiting targets. Taylor previously worked as the defensive coordinator at St. Thomas Aquinas high school before accepting his analyst role at The U.

On a new episode of my Locked On Canes podcast, I made the case for Cristobal to promote Taylor.

I believe the job could very well be Jason's if he wants it.

I've been told not to completely rule out Taylor being offered jobs from NFL teams, though. An NFL opportunity might be the only factor that could pull him away from Coral Gables.

I want Miami's next defensive ends coach to be someone Cristobal and new defensive coordinator Lance Guidry both agree on. It's hard to imagine Guidry not wanting to work with JT, though.
