Report: Miami Hurricanes Lose GM of Football Ops Alonzo Highsmith To NFL Front Office Job

According to The Athletic, the New England Patriots are hiring Highsmith away from his alma mater

Alonzo Highsmith is reportedly returning to the National Football League for a new front office opportunity.

The former Hurricanes fullback (1983 - 1986) returned to his alma mater in 2022 to become Miami's first ever GM of football operations. Highsmith served as an important liaison between the football program, Athletic Director Dan Radakovich and the University of Miami administration. While his day to day duties weren't explicitly defined, Highsmith worked closely with head coach Mario Cristobal in scouting prospects, something he did for over two decades at the NFL level. He also added an important voice for staffing decisions along with Cristobal.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports that Highsmith will be hired for a front office role with the New England Patriots

Highsmith is returning to his roots. He was working in various NFL front offices from 1999 up until he took the GM job at Miami. He began with the Green Bay Packers as a college scout in 1999 and was promoted in 2012 to senior personnel executive. He later worked in the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks front offices.

According to Feldman, Highsmith's job title in New England has not yet been determined.

It's also yet to be determined who Miami will hire as their new football GM. Will Alonzo's duties be split among multiple people or will there be a direct replacement?
