Miami Hurricanes Will Not Be A Good Team Until They Stop Shooting Themselves In The Foot | Donno Video
The Miami Hurricanes have a good collection of talent, but they will not be a good football team until they stop turning the football over at a catastrophic rate.
I discussed Miami's latest self-sabotage on my recap episode of Locked On Canes.
In their 41-31 loss at the North Carolina Tar Heels, Miami committed four turnovers and lost the turnover margin -4.
The Hurricanes have committed NINE turnovers in their past two contests, a pair of conference losses to UNC and Georgia Tech.
How do you expect to beat anybody when you fumble a would-be touchdown run inside the one yard line? Or when Tyler Van Dyke throws an interception deep in your own territory to give Drake Maye and the UNC offense an opportunity just a couple yards outside the red zone? Or when your defensive coordinator gets flagged for a person foul that costs you seven points?
Miami was off to a decent start. They had a 17-14 lead at halftime but completely de-railed in the 3rd quarter. UNC outscored Miami 21-0 in the third. Miami's stout defense sprung leaks left and right when the offense couldn't stay on the field.
Van Dyke put up good looking stats (391 yards, 4 TD's) but the interceptions and miscues largely canceled that out.
Why aren't the tight ends being used in the passing game whatsoever?
How about some screens to the running backs?
Freshman defensive lineman Rueben Bain is a stud. I have nothing negative to say about him. He makes me optimistic about the future.
I would like to see receiver Brashard Smith get more playing time. He looked dynamic and scored a late 54 yard touchdown.
We'll be here venting throughout the week and looking for answers.
But for now, remember, this team cannot win until they stop giving away the football!
