After the loss yesterday, Miami has extended their losing streak to North Carolina to five games following the 41-31 result. While many expected the Hurricanes to have a major bounce back performance, Miami turned the ball over four times and continues to take themselves out of games. Here are my thoughts:

What Went Right: The Defense Getting Into The Backfield

I've been critical all season that Miami has failed to turn pressures into sacks, and tonight they were able to do so. The Hurricanes defense walked away with five sacks on the night to go along with 11 tackles for loss. While Drake Maye did throw four touchdowns on the night, his completion percentage ended at 52%.

Rueben Bain, Jr. was able to get yet another sack, as the true freshmen continues to be one of the best freshmen in the nation. While he has been battling injuries, it's unfortunate to see Nyjalik Kelly not performing up to the level many expected him to be. While it was a good team effort on pressure, the stars on the team need to get involved.

What Went Wrong: The Turnover Margin

I have continuously been on Miami this season for their penalty problems, but despite having seven it wasn't the problem since the Tar Heels tailed up 14 penalties for 147 yards. But, the Hurricanes lost the turnover battle four to zero and that was the determining factor. Tyler Van Dyke threw two interceptions and had a fumble and Henry Parrish fumbled as well. There's not much to say but you can't expect to win games if that's the scenario.

What Went Expected: Spreading The Ball Around

Something that was a problem last game against Georgia Tech was that Van Dyke became too reliant on Xavier Restrepo as none of the other receivers were able to get involved too much. While there was 49 pass attempts, five receivers for the Hurricanes had over four targets on the night with three going over 90 yards.

I understand he's still coming back from injury, but I want to see Elijah Arroyo start to get more incorporated into this offense. With his combination of size and athleticism, he'll be able to unlock so much more to this offense. But, only time will tell.
