Miami Hurricanes RB TreVonte' Citizen Is Fully Cleared | Will He Debut Soon?
The Miami Hurricanes are using an abundance of caution with second year running back TreVonte' Citizen. The former 4-Star recruit is yet to debut for Miami due to a serious knee injury suffered during fall camp last year.
Mario Cristobal confirmed this week that Citizen is healthy again.
"He is cleared. He is ready. He is rusty," Cristobal said, after noting that he's not sure when Citizen will get into a game this year. TreVonte' was fully dressed and went through warmups this past Saturday. That's the first time I've seen him do that at Miami.
"We want to make sure that when he does get in there that it's because he has a chance to help us win games," Cristobal said. He added, "Everyone's really happy for him because what he went through was obviously a tough thing, but I can't put a timeline on him when exactly he's gonna get reps.”
The first time I saw Citizen in person, before his injury, I was shocked by how physically mature he looked as an incoming freshman. He arrived at Miami in 2022 from Lake Charles, LA at 6-1, 221 pounds. Once he shakes off his rust, he can be a star in college and beyond.
Whenever Citizen's number is called, expect his reps to be limited at first. Typically when players come back from a serious injury, Cristobal and his staff keep them on a strict, personalized rep count. If Citizen can play comfortably through a handful of game reps in his debut, his workload would increase gradually from there. Miami has the luxury of a deep running back room.
Will it happen this Saturday night against NC State, or will the wait continue?
