Williams becomes the third Miami underclassman to officially announce his intentions to go pro.

After taking his time and weighing his options, James Williams has decided to leave the Miami Hurricanes to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

You can read Williams' statement below, relayed by Adam Lichtenstein of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Williams recorded a team-high 73 tackles this season. He added an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He led Miami with 730 defensive snaps this season. His 84.7 coverage grade from Pro Football Focused is the highest on the team.

Williams was the top safety recruit in the recruiting class of 2021 and the 14th rated player overall. He recorded 163 tackles and four interceptions during his three year college career.

I've seen Williams project as high as a 3rd round pick on early NFL mocks. He has plenty of time to raise his stock even higher. His measurables and tangibles are great, so I can expect him to turn some heads at the NFL Scouting Combine. He's listed at 6-5 and 215 lbs. He could end up moving into the box full time as an outside linebacker at the next level.

It's been reported that Miami will also lose safety Kamren Kinchens to the draft, but he has not officially announced just yet. So far, OL Javion Cohen and DT Leonard Taylor are the other two underclassman to officially enter the draft.
