Miami's defensive line made impactful plays while the running back rotation also found ways to shine.

The Miami Hurricanes held an open practice and scrimmage for their fans at Hard Rock Stadium.

Saturday's CanesFest gave onlookers a preview of what to watch for in 2023.

I offered a full recap on my Locked On Canes podcast:

Tyler Van Dyke had a solid outing and is clearly above his peers. He completed a deep pass to Xavier Restrepo in the scrimmage and managed to hit Colbie Young for a touchdown in red zone drills.

It was a frustrating day for second team quarterback Jacurri Brown. He was off target on several of his throws. The accuracy just wasn't there.

Running backs Ajay Allen and Mark Fletcher really jumped off the page. Allen busted off a pair of long runs while Fletcher managed to put his physicality and strength on display.

Defensive linemen Rueben Bain, Leonard Taylor and Nyjalik Kelly managed to create sacks and negative plays on the first team D-Line. Akheem Mesidor would likely be in front of Bain on the depth chart, but he was held out of the scrimmage today. Even so, I expect Bain to play a lot this season.

The biggest unsolved mystery of the day surrounded safety James Williams. He primarily worked with the second team while Markeith Williams played with the starters, alongside Kam Kinchens. Up to this point, all indications have pointed to James being a starter. I try not to read too much into a mid-August depth chart, especially when Miami's coaches love to rotate frequently. Still, this is a situation worth monitoring.

True freshman Damari Brown worked as a first team corner along with his older brother Davonte. He continues to compete despite his lack of experience. Could Damari end up becoming a week 1 starter?
